Welcome!

Friendly club, great location: for us that sums up Onneley Golf Club!

The great location: on the westerly flank of Bar Hill, from which the course provides glorious views over Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire against the backdrop of the Welsh Hills.

The course has a quiet rural setting even though it is only a few miles from the Potteries.  It is only 15 minutes from M6 junction 15 and a couple on minutes longer from junction 16, on the A525 Newcastle-under-Lyme to Whitchurch road.  The club is adjacent to the Wheatsheaf Inn, where accommodation is available for travelling golfers.  In the past half-century it has been extended and matured to become a hidden gem, with 18 challenging holes.  The course tends to favour the straight, rather than long hitters.  Course management and a reliable short game are the keys to a good score here – for all levels of golfer.  (Download a course plan here; and, coming soon, a flyover of the course.)

Our Friendly Club aims to offer accessible golf to everyone, whether as visitor or member.

We are committed to expanding the appeal of the game to as many people as possible in the locality, and work closely with the local council, nearby schools and Staffs Golf working to promote our game.  We have a very active Junior section which uses an academy system to help young golfers through the learning process, and offer attractive promotional deals for new adult members.  Our resident professional, Eddie Tittensor, is recognised for his skills with those taking up the sport.  In addition to group lessons he is also available for individual coaching.

This year, we are promoting access to golf for ladies.  The game has much to offer all of us, but women in particular are under-represented in this wonderful sport.  If you are a golf widow, or have children keen to try the game, or just plain interested in trying it for yourself, why not try it out in a friendly and relaxed environment with Onneley?  Follow this link for more info.  We cannot all be the next world champion, but by playing this wonderful game we can all be happier and healthier – even if we are sometimes frustrated by it!

While many occasional golfers will not have the time or inclination to commit full-time to a club, we also hope that some of today’s visitors will be tomorrow’s members; so we are happy to accept golfing societies as well as smaller visiting parties throughout the year.

This has been a tough finish to 2019 weather-wise; but the course is standing up well to the deluge and our greens staff are working flat out to ensure that the course will be better than ever in 2020.  But can we all say the same for our golf game?  Why not consider some indoor lessons with Eddie: he has set up a lesson package for juniors, and there will be others soon for adults: see details here.

Onneley Golf  Club has for some years held the GolfMark, which reflects the ruling body’s judgement that the club is well-managed.
