Senior Golf

Onneley GC has a strong and active Seniors’ Section. The summer schedule mainly comprises inter-club friendly matches and a pairs KO tournament. Over the rest of the year we run a singles winter league, starting with the seniors’ championship, the Callister Cup. Our main playing day is Wednesday, although there is usually an informal roll-up played on Fridays often over a reduced number of holes.

Among our present players, the handicaps range from 9 to 29, and the emphasis is on friendly golf. Some of our members are however still keenly competitive. We have several 80-year plus stalwarts, one of whom regularly shoots his age or below. His feat has been emulated by at least a couple of young whippersnappers in their 70s although for most of us that’s just a pipe-dream.

Interested in joining us?

All male golfers aged 55 or more who are playing members at Onneley are welcome. If you are relatively new to the game other seniors will be pleased to show you round, and to mark cards for handicap purposes. You don’t need a regular partner, as teams are drawn and the league is played as three-ball singles.

Or just turn up on a Wednesday or Friday morning early and speak to any golfer of a certain age. You will get a friendly reception, and pointed towards the one of the organisers.
