Junior Golf
Junior Golf
Onneley GC has long been associated with junior golf: David Gilford – later to be a European Tour player and a member of two victorious Ryder Cup teams – learned his game here. Today’s youth is the game’s future and we are keen to promote the health and social benefits that golf offers to all young people.
What we Offer
Our Junior Academy is run by the Club Professional in conjunction with the Junior Convenor, who represents the Junior Section on the Club Committee. Group coaching takes place on Saturdays with the emphasis on fun, participation and skills development. The Golf Foundation’s Junior Passport scheme helps to record progress for the younger members. Individual lessons can also be provided by arrangement with the Club Professional.
Older and more advanced pupils play the full 18 hole course once they are sanctioned to play unsupervised. They are encouraged to gain a nationally recognised Congu handicap, which allows them to enter higher level competitions and potentially play at county level.
We run friendly club competitions for all abilities, which help our juniors to develop their self-confidence, teamwork and social skills alongside their golf. We also participate in the North Staffs Junior Leagues.
Our juniors are encouraged to make use of the club’s practice facilities and golf course between lessons (accompanied by an adult if under the age of 12).
The Junior Section also holds social events during the year to which all family members are welcome.
Safeguarding
The club takes its child protection responsibilities seriously. Each of the adults permitted to assist the Club Professional and supervise the work of the junior section must have been DBS-checked and hold a child safeguarding certificate.
Junior Academy Memberships
Our Junior Memberships are currently as follows:
Under 12 Cub Membership Annual fee of £15
12-14 years Junior Intermediates Annual fee £60
15-17 years Intermediate Annual fee £120
(Members of the golf club may also take their children/relatives under the age of 12 years on to the course for a game or to practise.)
If you would like to come along to Onneley on a Saturday and see what we do, please get in touch with the Club Professional – you will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
