Men’s Golf

Onneley GC runs a full annual schedule of competitions.  Our main competition day is Sunday.  From Spring to mid-October, the emphasis is on singles competitions.  Each month sees a medal, a stableford, and usually a major competition (Captain’s and President’s Prizes, plus a medal, stableford, bogey and the 36-hole Club Cup & Plate).  The other weeks are taken up by better-ball or occasional Texas Scramble games.

In addition we run two weekday competitions each month so that five-day members have a full opportunity to test and maintain their handicaps.  These run on (usually) the first and third Fridays of the month, and are a mix of medals and stablefords.

During the remainder of the year, the club plays a better-ball winter league.  The top 16 pairs play a matchplay knock-out to establish the overall winner.  A new departure to mark our 50th Anniversary is a competition for The Remembrance Cup, a silver goblet hallmarked in Chester in the year that saw the end of WW1.  This will be played for on Remembrance Sunday, which in its inaugural year falls on the 11th.  The club marks this anniversary by pausing play for two minutes at 11:00.
